The initial, year-long research on Charles G. Hine’s album (and related collections at the New York Historical) was funded by a National Endowment for the Humanities Fellowship.
The New York Historical generously granted permission for Hine’s photographs to be reproduced on this website and in the book. Particular thanks to its library’s director, Valerie Paley, and to its head of Rights & Reproductions, Eleanor Gillers.
The rephotography of Broadway sites and the construction of the interactive map and website were funded by an Arts & Humanities Initiative award from the University of Iowa. Max Yablon provided assistance with the rephotography.
Jay Bowen, GIS Developer at North Carolina State University, produced the map and the website.
